Community Outreach

Outreach during the COVID-19 Pandemic

In March 2020, Global Leadership School was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. School remained closed due to the pandemic for the remainder of 2020 and the majority of 2021. By God’s grace, we were able to continue paying all school staff their full salary and maintain their medical insurance throughout the extended school closing.

While school was out, teachers provided study packets and reading books to the students to use at home in efforts to maintain continuity in learning. School staff also organized and completed three major community service projects: constructing living quarters, a kitchen, and new latrines for two widows and an elderly couple in the community.

During the extended shutdowns in 2021, 7 Billion Reasons established a Children’s Program on the school campus where GLS and community children met 3 times a week for: bible studies, worship, life skills training, playtime and nutritious meals

The economic impacts of the pandemic were extreme. Food prices tripled, supply chains were disrupted, and the opportunity to work was severely limited or eliminated altogether for many.  During 2020 and 2021, we were able to provide physical assistance in the form of food care packages to over 100 school and community families who were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The care packages consisted of beans, rice, millet, sugar, nuts, salt, tea leaves, cooking oil, charcoal, matches, soap, greens from our school’s garden, and eggs from our school’s hens. The average household size of the families served was 6.5 and many of these families received multiple care packages, each package providing 3 to 4 weeks of food care supplies. As our staff delivered the care packages, there were many opportunities to talk and pray with these families, letting them know how much God cares for them and that they had not been forgotten. We know of at least one father who accepted Jesus Christ as his savior through these visits, and we are confident that many seeds were planted that God has and will cultivate over time.

Outreach through Sports

In 2022, Global Leadership School expanded its campus to include sports facilities for soccer, basketball, netball, and volleyball. These facilities are available to community children and adults after school and on weekends. Our vision is that the interest and participation that we are seeing in sports on the GLS campus will become a Christ-centered sports program with organized devotion and discipleship opportunities.
